It was a sunny Monday in Central Florida. To most people, it seemed this would be an ordinary Monday. It was expected that people would go through their daily routines. To some people, this means going to work for 8-10 hours then relaxing a little in the evening. To other people like Pete Tiger, this means going to employment seminars. This first one would be the orientation. Since Peter is on unemployment, he is required to attend these seminars. Peter likes learning new things, especially if they are technical things. If Peter is asked to learn a new computer software program, he either opens the program to see how it works or reads whatever documentation that is necessary to learn the program. If Peter is sent to training classes by an employer, he goes happily. For some reason, seminars about unemployment annoy Peter to no end. If somebody asked Peter the reason for this, he wouldn’t be able to give an answer. Peter keeps up with politics and he is an unapoligetic liberal. Peter is so liberal that he considers President Clinton and Obama to be republican-light. Perhaps it isn’t the seminars themselves Peter doesn’t like. Afterall, he is just starting the first one today. Instead, it is probably the idea that if the economy was better, Peter wouldn’t need to even think about unemployment seminars, resumes, interviews, etc. Instead, he would either be teaching one of the assistive technology programs or Microsoft Office.

Peter ate a quick breakfast, brushed his teeth and got dressed. Right after Peter found out that he received his first position, he purchased an iPhone that he had been wanting for awhile. A couple months later, he purchased speakers so he could also use his iPhone as an iPod. If Peter knew he would be losing his position in a year, he might not have purchased that iPhone, but that’s OK because it will be useful today. Peter packed his speakers and megaphone into his work case and put his iPhone into his pocket.

Peter rode the bus to the career center. When he got there, it was 8:59 and the orientation started at 9:00. Peter found a chair and put his speakers on the table that was in front of him. Peter tapped on the iPod icon at the bottom of the home screen on his iPhone. Once the iPod app opened, he searched for the song Revolution by the Beatles. Once he found it, his heart started racing. It was not Peter’s normal MO to do what he was about to do. Peter is normally polite and hardly ever breaks rules. “Do I really want to go through with this?,” Peter thought. Then he thought about how hard he worked before he got laid off from his last job. Peter always came to work on time and usually got good feedbacck from the students that he taught. A little bit before Peter was laid off, he felt like he was really getting the hang of teaching assistive technology. “This is where that hard work got me? Screw the rules! Hell yeah I want to do this! I don’t just want to do this, I need to do this!” thought Peter. Peter plugged the speakers into his iPhone and tapped on the The music boomed throughout the room and everybody jumped out of their seats. The person that was supposed to be doing the introductory seminar was in his early 50′s. He came over to Peter and said, “sir do you know where you are? Did you get lost looking for a party or something? I think you’re in the wrong place.” Peter took the megaphone out of his case, lifted it up to his mouth and started speaking. Peter said, “This gentleman just asked if I know where I am. The answer to that is yes. I know that today is supposed to be an introduction to a bunch of seminars about doing interviews, writing resumes, using the Florida Market Place to look for jobs. None of that is of much use if the jobs available have so much competition that you don’t have much of a chance of getting an interview. If you try to work for some non-profit agencies, you might get an interview then the agency figures out that there isn’t enough money to hire somebody afterall. In order for anything that will be discussed to be useful, the US economy needs a major boost. I bet everybody in this room has skills that the Federal Government could use to help rebuild its infrastructure. If the federal government hired millions of people to rebuild infrastructure, there wouldn’t be a need for that many of these seminars. The people that the federal government hired would naturally spend money on goods and services thus boosting the economy. This boost in the economy would cause demand for more goods and services. In order to accommodate this extra demand, businesses in the private sector would need to hire more workers. I didn’t come up with what I just said out of thin air. This was done during the 1930′s during the and that is what braught America out of the depression. If politicians in Washington are willing to pass into law another New Deal type program, I am willing to take these seminars seriously. Until then, I say, let’s party!”
The seminar host tried to speak, but before he could, there was a round of aplause so loud that the tables and chairs shook. The sound of a megaphone and of booming music was so out of ordinary for this career center that everybody in the neighborhood came to see what was going on. Everybody who came was so fascinated that they stayed, listened and posted on FaceBook and or Twitter about what was happening.
A little while after Peter was done speaking, a combination of a party and political protest started. People from all over central Florida came. Some braught home made signs that said things like the following:
“We need another New Deal.”
“Wall street got their bailout
Where is ours?”

Other people liked the party half of the event, so they braught things such as beer and whine. As the day went on, the croud kepped growing. By Tuesday morning, people were there from all over the state of Florida. People began bringing baked food, fruits and vegetables. Eventually, people got creative enough to combine food with signage. One person baked a giant chocolate cake the size of a table. Written in icing in the middle of the cake was “where is our bailout?” As the days and weeks went on, tents, air mattresses and other sleeping arangements were set up. By the 4th week, over a million people had made this area their temporary home. People only slept about a couple hours a night because the party was just too fun.

Is this the beginning of a new political movement or just one giant party that will fizzle out?
to be continued

There is this book called the Secret that says that you can visualize what you want. I want a job. To make it easier for me to put The Secret into practice, I am going to write down a job description. Before I do that, I will give a little bit of an explanation in case somebody actually reads this. Until the end of April, I worked at an organization that trains blind people how to live independently. Since I love keeping up with new technology, I taught blind people how to use computers. I’m blind myself, so I am the perfect person to do that. Depending on how much vision somebody has, they are taught how to use either a magnification or screen reading program. I think most people have an idea what I mean by magnification. A screen reading program uses synthesized speech to allow blind people to hear what one would normally see on the screen. Instead of using a mouse, blind people use keyboard shortcuts to navigate a computer or the internet. Below is my job description:

assess students to evaluate appropriate assistive technology needs

develope individualized training plans for students

instruct students on appropriate assistive technology

prepare or follow lesson plans

assist students in installing appropriate assistive technology on their home computers if necessary

give reports or case notes for each student

troubleshoot assistive technology related problems

maintain lab computers

keep abreast of current technology

give input to management about how assistive technology related grant money should be spent

Other duties may be assigned if time allows

What do they have to be mad about? They’ve got Medicare coverage. The tax cuts for the rich got extended. The Obama administration isn’t prosecuting any Bushies, not even the torture memo writers. Indeed, most of Bush’s executive power grabs and unconstitutional programs have been expanded.”
To me, it seems like people who supported President Obama are the ones that should be upset.

The NFB is in on this whole deal. They deliberately work against built in accessibility so they can keep getting 7 figure payoffs from companies who shal remain nameless but have the initials FS.:) (among others) When accessibility is built in they and other blind organizations don’t get a cut from the vendors as hush money and also don’t get a cut of the sales where applicable.

This is why cable boxes aren’t accessible, why windows doesn’t have a real built in screen reader and why groups like the NFB publish so many hit pieces on Apple.

Since Macs and I-devices have screen reading available by default, somebody at Amazon will undoubtedly decide that they can’t let Mac users have the access, because they it would be available to everybody. You can’t use the accessibility app on Windoes unless you have a screen reader installed, even though the tts used does not come from your screen reader.

AP

In an effort to help the increasing amount of unemployed people in the United States, the house has just voted to pass the Affordable Food Act of 2010. “Let’s face it, if somebody is unemployed, it is often hard to pay for basic needs such as putting food on the table,” said house speaker Nancy Pelosi on Saturday afternoon after the bill was passed. After the senate votes to pass the bill and the Obama administration signs it, all American citizens will be required to purchase Walmart Insurance. When asked why it was necessary to require everybody to pay for Walmart insurance, Vp Joe Biden said the following:
“The mandate to buy a product from a private corporation may not sit well with some people. However, it is necessary for everybody to pay into the pool in order to fairly spread the risk around. If Walmart has enough money from people who are employed, the company will be able to provide food to unemployed people who can no longer afford food.” When asked about the legality of forcing people to buy a product from a private corporation, Biden said “So far, we have gotten away with it in the healthcare reform bill that was just passed. The supreme court is in the pocket of the corporations, so I think we’re safe.” VP Biden was asked what people should do if they want to support alternatives to large corporations such as Walmart. He said “I’m sure some people on the professional left object to supporting large corporations against their will. If they complain, I will say the same thing I said a few weeks ago. Stop whining.” Biden expounded even farther, “If we give the health insurance companies 30 million new customers, it’s only fair that we extend this privilege to other corporations.”

What do you think of when you think of god?
Here are a few things I think of:
Some people call themselves Christians. They support war but are against social safety nets These people are known as conservatives or republicans.
People call themselves Christians and they get up and go to church on sundays. They put money into a cup so the church can get a bigger building.
Some people call themselves Christians. These people support political candidates who want to continue putting people in jail for smoking Marijuana.
Some people call themselves Christians. They support political candidates that support big oil. Is their god made out of oil? Oh wait, oil is a symbol of freedom. Oh wait, I don’t think that’s it either. Oil is a symbol of America and god loves America so god loves oil. Oh darn, that’s still probably not it. It’s a little more complicated than that. Oil is a symbol for America. America symbolizes freedom. God loves freedom. Therefore, god loves oil. Yeah, I think that’s it. To that I say, GOD SHMOD Better yet, GOD DAM SHMOD

Jill Stein is running for governor of Massachusetts on the Green ticket. Normally, candidates that are not running in one of the two wings of the republicrat party don’t get that many votes. One reason for this is that if somebody is not a member of the republicrat party, they are not usually taken seriously by the media. In fact, they are usually not even included in debates.
This is different with Jill Stein. Yesterday (9/24,) the Jill Stein campaign launched a campaign fundraising drive with the goal of raising $125000. The campaign needed to raise $100000 in order to be included in the next Massachusetts gubernatorial debate. The other $25000 was needed in order for the Jill Stein campaign to receive matching funds. The campaign met both of those goals. This means that she will now get name recognition by being in a debate with the republicrat candidates. At the same time, the campaign will receive even more money for outreach to Massachusetts voters. Will the Jill Stein campaign encourage people to free themselves from the republicrat party? I guess we won’t know for sure until November. To give the reader an idea of what the Jill Stein campaign is about, I will paste a quote from http://www.jillstein.org
“What if everyone had affordable health care, and we saved billions by eliminating bureaucracy and overpricing?

Our current health care system is not affordable and is not delivering the health care we need. It’s time to act to provide affordable, quality health coverage to all our citizens – without the Massachusetts mandate that forces people to buy expensive, stripped down plans that don’t protect health or financial security when real illness strikes.

There is a proven way to achieve all this while saving billions of dollars. It involves a Medicare-for-all system that pays for itself simply by cutting out the insurance company red tape. (It’s sometimes called “single-payer,” which means that all bills go to a single processing point — eliminating the costly and complex billing system required to submit claims to multiple private insurance providers, each following different rules).

The single-payer system gives the government a tool to negotiate the lowest possible prices from pharmaceutical companies (which is why pharmaceutical company lobbyists are fighting it).

Under single-payer, no one loses health insurance when they change jobs. And our health dollars are spent on better health care — not on insurance company red tape.

The single-payer system is proven. It is being used by almost every developed country in the world. It’s time the people of Massachusetts stopped getting overcharged for pharmaceuticals and stopped worrying about how to get health insurance.

Jill Stein supports legislation that will move Massachusetts toward a single-payer health insurance system, based on the Medicare model. This will cover everyone and save us money.”

HTML 5 is better than Flash because it respects accessibility a lot more than Adobe Flash. If a blind user uses the VoiceOver screen reader on Mac OS 10, there is no way to access flash content. If there is some live webcast that a blind person wants/needs to listen to, there is no way they can hit the play button on the Flash player to play the content. If HTML 5 is used, a blind person can press the play button just like any other button on a web page. In a civilized society, people with disabilities need to have the same amount of access to information as a non-disabled person. In short, unless Adobe makes flash fully accessible, it needs to be squashed like a bug and replaced with HTML 5 or another accessible standard. That may sound harsh, but I’m tired of sighted people AKA the light dependent shoving people with disabilities aside like bugs.

When I use the word “republicrats,” I’m referring to the republicans and democrats. In my mind, they are two wings of the same party. Therefore, I combine the names of the prties and call them republicrats. Let’s have some examples of how they are the same.
Both democrat and republican politicians support anti-privacy laws such as the Patriot Act.
Both republican and democrat politicians support military intervention around the world.
Both democrat and republican and democrat politicians support laws that take away American jobs such as NAFTA.
Both republicans and democrat politicians are against Single Payer healthcare. Republicans just say no to healthcare reform. Democrats are a little more clever. They passed a bill called “healthcare reform” that gives more money to the for-profit “health insurance” companies that are the problem.
Neither democrats or republican politicians are doing anything to reverse the war on drugs that puts a lot of minorities in prison. In fact, my democratic congressional candidate Heather Beaven participated in the war on drugs when she was in the military. On the web site, she doesn’t mention having any regrets about anything she did in the military. In fact, she says that the military was the best decision she has ever made. See http://www.beavenforcongress.com/aboutme.html. I just don’t see what is so good about violent intervention around the world and jailing people for non-violent so-called crimes.
I think I gave enough examples of how the two wings of the republicrat party are the same.
It’s time to vote for the Green Party or another third party that best matches your values. I can almost hear somebody thinking, “If you do that, your just waisting your vote. Greens or other third parties don’t have a chance.” Maybe not this cycle, but you have to start somewhere. In 2012, they could get 10% of the vote. If people see that 10% of people voted for something other than the republicrat party, some will be curious and look into those third parties. Then, they could get 20% in 2016, then 40% 2 to four years from then, ETC. Oh, but right now, we have to keep the republicans from getting in because they will be worse, I hear some democrats saying. I’ve heard that the last few election cycles, so that doesn’t work on me anymore. You have to give me something more than fear to get my vote. You’re waisting your vote if you just vote out of fear.

While the White House and Pentagon worry over the coming disclosure of another 15,000 classified documents on Afghanistan by WikiLeaks, the organization’s leader Julian Assange finds himself swirling in accusations of sexual impropriety.

The Peace and Justice Resource Center has a special obligation to report this story fairly and accurately because thousands of people have signed the petition:

Defend WikiLeaks – End the Secret Wars

What is the truth behind the allegations? What effect will they have on WikiLeaks? Is this a “dirty tricks” effort by intelligence agencies to discredit, disrupt and destroy the whistleblower threat?

The situation changes daily. For this analysis, the Bulletin has relied on Swedish sources on the ground, and translations from the papers Expressen, Dagens Nyheter, and Svenska Dagbladet.

Here is the sequence of events:

Expressen, which was first out with the information, phoned the prosecutor the evening of Friday, August 20, already knowing all the information about the alleged rape, who was involved, and places; as of Saturday, August 28, the source of the newspaper’s information was not known;

“No one has explained yet why a newspaper had access to the investigative materials in the same minute as the prosecutor had it,” a Swedish source tells the Bulletin.

The on-call prosecutor, Maria Haljebo-Kjellstrand, who received the media inquiry, says she only acknowledged that the investigation was about Assange. She says she revealed no other information and asked the evening paper not to print the news, according to DN.

The rape allegation went around the world in the media and internet;

On Saturday, August 21, Chief Prosecutor Eva Finné dropped the rape charge and, shortly after, terminated any suspicion of sexual assault [sexuelle ofredande]; she authorized an interview/investigation into the charge of molestation;

The lawyer for the two women, Claes Borgstrom, will appeal the prosecutor’s decision;

Assange’s lawyer, Leif Silbersky, complained that, “my client has been stigmatized world-wide as a rapist, one of the worst of crimes [and] has been damaged enormously”;

Both affected women deny giving the story to the media;

Assange denied committing any crime, and said all his sexual relations always have been “fully consensual”;

One of the women involved denied there has been any conspiracy by the police or CIA, but says Assange has a “distorted [warped]” view of women and “simply can’t take a no for an answer.” She added, “It is quite wrong that we should be afraid of Assange and therefore refuse to notify the authorities. He is not violent and I do not feel threatened by him.”

Here are some translated definitions in Swedish law:

Sexual abuse, also referred to as molestation, is the forcing of undesired sexual behavior by one person upon another. When that force is immediate, of short duration and infrequent [isolated], it is called sexual assault.

Sexual assault, depending on the local jurisdiction, may include rape, forced vaginal, anal or oral penetration, forced sexual intercourse, inappropriate touching, forced kissing, child sexual abuse, or torture in a sexual manner.

Sexual harassment, covers a wide range of offensive behavior, commonly-understood as behavior intended to disturb or upset, plus persistent and unwanted sexual advances.

In summary, the press initially reported that Assange was charged with rape. That charge, and that of sexual assault, were dismissed the following day, leaving a police investigation of molestation.

Whatever the truth in this case, readers also should understand that law enforcement agencies repeatedly have used dirty tricks involving sex in efforts to defame political opponents. A brief list of examples would include:

“[Daniel] Ellsberg, according to Henry [Kissinger], had weird sexual habits [and] used drugs,” according to White House chief of staff H.R. Haldeman. Richard Nixon ordered the burglary by White House “plumbers”, including CIA agents, of confidential medical files from the office of Ellsberg’s psychoanalyst, Dr. Robert Fielding, on Sept. 3, 1971. The purpose was to discredit Ellsberg as an anti-war spokesman according to White House aide Egil Krogh in a 1974 pleading in federal court. One of the objectives was for the CIA “to perform a covert psychological assessment/evaluation on Ellsberg.” They wanted information on his wife and children, according to historian Taylor Branch. [In
Ellsberg, Secrets, 2002, p. 445]

It is well-known that the FBI attempted to “neutralize” Dr. Martin Luther King with illegal wiretaps which revealed extra-marital affairs. Tapes were sent to his wife at home and, in 1964, when King was receiving the Nobel Prize, the FBI sent him a surreptitious warning letter which concluded, “King, there is only one thing left for you to do. You know what it is … You better take it before your filthy, abnormal fraudulent self is bared to the nation.”

In 1970, the FBI planted rumors with a Hollywood columnist alleging that the actress Jean Seberg was pregnant by a Black Panther. As an agent wrote on April 27,1970: “The possible publication of Seberg’s plight could cause her embarrassment and serve to cheapen her image with the general public.” Seberg miscarried, and eventually took her life August 30, 1979.

UPCOMING DEADLINES

In SEPTEMBER, Rep. Bob Filner [D-San Diego] will hold hearings on US casualty numbers and fiscal costs. Peace advocates will be demanding the end of Pentagon under-counting of American war casualties.

By DECEMBER, Obama will be deep into another White House review of war policies, with the results of the Kandahar offensive central to the debate. Peace advocates will be demanding a swift shift to diplomacy, including peace talks with the Taliban.

In JANUARY-JUNE, Congressional debate on the war budget heats up once more, as the JULY deadline for beginning withdrawals approaches.

RALLY FOR JOBS, JUSTICE, PEACE AUG. 28

Leaders of the United Auto Workers and Rev. Jesse Jackson will take to the streets of Detroit on August 28, protesting the rising costs of the Afghanistan and Iraq wars while domestic American needs go unmet. The date is the same as the Aug. 28 march for jobs and justice in 1963. The Detroit demonstration will be followed on October 2 by a march on Washington sponsored by the NAACP, La Raza and the AFL-CIO.
